Future of ombrogenic forest marshland areas
Badania terenowe prowadzono na terenach mokradłowych Leśnego Kompleksu
Promocyjnego Lasy Rychtalskie. Obszary mokradłowe charakteryzują się
bardzo dużymi zdolnościami retencyjnymi. Odpływ roczny jest stosunkowo niewielki
– ok. 4% sumy opadów rocznych i występuje tylko w półroczu zimowym
i w maju.
dążyć do całkowitego zatrzymania odpływającej z tych terenów wody.
Wykazano, iż wody powierzchniowe mają lepszą jakość niż wody gruntowe.
Pierwsze z nich mają czystość odpowiadającą wartościom zawartym w granicach
pomiędzy wartościami będącymi na granicy oznaczeń do górnej granicy klasy
drugiej, natomiast drugie wartościom do piątej klasy czystości. W wodach powierzchniowych
elementem o najgorszej wartości było we wszystkich sezonach
chemiczne zapotrzebowanie na tlen (ChZT). Swoje najwyższe wskazania osiągnęło
ono w sezonie wiosennym 2006 roku.
w wodach powierzchniowych i gruntowych leśnych mokradeł
ombrogenicznych LKP Lasy Rychtalskie. Również inne, przeprowadzone lecz nie
opisane w niniejszej pracy badania (m.in. monitoring dioksynowy, magnetometria)
potwierdzają brak znaczących ilości zanieczyszczeń, w szczególności metali ciężkich
i biogenów na tych terenach (Miler i in. 2004–2007).
Field studies have been carried out on marshland areas in the Promotion
Forest Complex Rychtalskie Forest. Marshland areas are characterized by very
large water storage capacities. Total annual outflow is relatively small – about 4%
of a total annual precipitation and it occurs only in winter half-year and in May.
Ground water levels lie shallow, about 1 m under the surface area. The forecast of
water condition change in the investigated areas, expressed by ground water
changes, was based on negative trend of precipitation. It has been assumed that,
essential changes on marshland area ecosystems will occur, when – average
ground water levels come down by about 50% of the present state. It has been estimated
that it will happen after around 100 years. Pragmatic actions should aim
to totally stop water outflow from these areas. It was found that surface water had
better water quality than ground water. First of them had the results in the interval
ranging from the border of detect ability to the upper limit of the 2nd class of purity
whereas second to the 5th class of purity. In surface waters the parameter with the
poorest value in all seasons was chemical oxygen demand (ChZT). The highest
level was recorded in the spring season of 2006. Poor quality of ground waters
was determined by inorganic elements such as ammonia and soluble phosphates.
Depending on the seasons they reached values characteristic of quality classes III,
IV and V (being the worst in spring of 2006). As a result of conducted analyses no
significant processes of anthropogenic pollutants were found in surface and
ground waters of ombrogenic forest marshes in the Lasy Rychtalskie Promotional
Forest Complex. Also other analyses conducted within the framework of this study
and which results are not described in this paper (e.g. dioxin monitoring, magnetometry)
confirmed the absence of considerable amounts of pollutants, particularly
heavy metals and biogens in those areas (Miler et al. 2004–2007). However, in the
longer perspective we need to consider elevated concentrations of pollutants in
waters in connection with the forecasted water deficit, resulting from the downward
trend for total annual precipitation. However, this is a rather long-time perspective
Conception of retention and drain changes measurement in the Tuczno monitoring site
Powierzchnia poddana analizom położona jest w północno-zachodniej części
Polski na terenie województwa zachodniopomorskiego. Badania zlokalizowano
w bliskim sąsiedztwie meteorologicznej stacji badawczej zarządzanej przez Katedrę
Meteorologii UP w Poznaniu. Obszar znajduje się na terenie otuliny Drawieńskiego
Parku Narodowego.
Dlatego do obliczania profilowego
odpływu i zmian retencji zaproponowano pomiary stanów wód gruntowych
w transektach spływowych oraz oznaczanie uwilgotnienia w strefie aeracji
metodą TDR. Reflektometria Czasowo-Domenowa (TDR) stała się znaną i użyteczną
metodą dla pomiarów zawartości wody w glebie i wielkości przewodności
elektrycznej w latach 80-tych ubiegłego wieku poprzez opublikowanie serii artykułów
Toppy, Daltona i innych. Reflektometria Czasowo-Domenowa (TDR) jest
wysoce dokładną i dostosowaną do pomiarów automatycznnych metodą dla określania
zawartości wody i przewodności elektrycznej.
wody a przenikalność dielektryczna. Glina i materia organiczna wiążą
i zależności z całkowitą zawartością wody wymagają odrębnych kalibracji.
W metodzie TDR przenikalność dielektryczna ośrodka (np. gleby) wyliczana jest
na podstawie pomiaru prędkości propagacji impulsu elektromagnetycznego
wzdłuż falowodu utworzonego z elektrod przewodzących prąd elektryczny, tworzących
sondę pomiarową umieszczoną w badanym ośrodku. Przenikalność dielektryczna
warunkuje prędkość propagacji w takim falowodzie. Zatem na podsta wie pomiaru prędkości propagacji impulsu elektromagnetycznego można ocenić
wilgotność ośrodka. The area subjected to analysis is located in the north-west part of Poland in
Pomerania province. The study is located in the vicinity of meteorological research
station managed by the Department of Meteorology, University of Life Sciences
in Poznań. The area is located within the buffer zone of Drawieński National
Park. Standard tests of the water conditions in forests based on river basin
schema, which basically makes evaluation the quasi-point impossible (in units or
subunits of forest). Therefore, to calculate the profile drainage and retention
changes proposed measurements of groundwater levels in the trailing transects
and marking moisture in the aeration zone using TDR method. Time domain reflectometry
(TDR) became known as a useful method for soil water content and
bulk electrical conductivity measurement in the 1980s through the publication of a
series of papers by Topp, Dalton and others. Time domain reflectometry (TDR) is
a highly accurate and automatable method for determination of porous media
water content and electrical conductivity. Water content is inferred from the dielectric
permittivity of the medium, whereas electrical conductivity is inferred
from TDR signal attenuation. Empirical and dielectric mixing models are used to
relate water content to measured dielectric permittivity. Clay and organic matter
bind substantial amounts of water, such that measured bulk dielectric constant is
reduced and the relationship with total water content requires individual calibration.
The TDR method dielectric medium (eg. soil) is calculated by measuring the
speed of propagation of electromagnetic pulse along a waveguide formed by electrically
conductive electrodes, forming a probe placed in the test center. Permittivity
determines the speed of propagation in the waveguide. Thus, by measuring
the propagation speed of the electromagnetic pulse humidity medium can be estimated
Changes of soil moisture in the unsaturated zone during rainless periods in the Martew Forest Area
The paper presents changes of volumetric soil moisture during rainless periods in the area covered by the sixty year-old pine stand. The analysed area is located in the Tuczno Forest District, the Martew Forest Area in the north-western part of Poland. The calculations were based on the measurements of volumetric soil moisture at seven different depths below the ground level (to the depth of about 7 m). A set of probes was installed in the unsaturated zone for moisture measuring, using TDR method (Decagon Devices Em5b-ECH2O), in order to calculate volumetric soil moisture changes in the unsaturated zone. Volumetric soil moisture measurements used in this work were calculated at daily intervals during rainless periods in the years 2013-2016. The variability of volumetric soil moisture during the rainless periods was registered only at the shallowest level (0.85 m below the ground level). On deeper levels over relatively long (more than 20 days) rainless periods these changes are negligible. The Authors suggested the Weibull equation to describe the changes of volumetric soil moisture at shallow levels during the rainless periods
Changes of Ground Water Levels in the Zielonka Forest in Period 1970–2009
The aim of this study is demonstrate trends of groundwater level changes in Zielonka Forest on the Experimental Forest District Potasze example. The study included a period of 40 years (1970–2009). Variability of groundwater conditions is basis of water relation ratings, or trends of changes on given area, particularly on forest area. The Zielonka Forest is situated in the middle section of the Warta river catchment, in the central part of the Wielkopolska region, and its western border lies about 6 kilometres north-east of Poznan. The area is situated in the western part of the Wielkopolska-Mazovian climatic region. The natural landscape is of early glacial type of Pleistocene and Holocene formation. Postglacial drifts, deposits from the Poznan stage of the Würm glaciations, are the main parent materials of the soils in this area. The granulometric composition is formed by sands with a low clay content, overlying loose sands with admixture of gravel and slightly sandy clay. Scots pine (Pinus silvestris L.) is the dominant tree species but also oak (Quercus robur. L., Q. petrea (Matt.) Liebl.), alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn., Alnus incana (L.) Moench.), larch (Larix sp. Mill.) and rarely spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst) occur there. The predominant forest site types are: fresh mixed coniferous forest, fresh coniferous forest, wet coniferous forest and alder swamp forest. The greatest yearly fluctuations in groundwater level were observed in alder/ash swamp forest site types, where groundwater level was the highest (in shallow groundwater). Extended the meteorological observations on Zielonka station for 1970–1985, based on meteorological observation from Poznan station are reasonable. The resulting regression and correlation coefficients relation for precipitation sum, mean air temperature (monthly and annual) are statistically significant on customarily accepted levels of significance α = 0.05. Consequently complete data of precipitation and air temperatures have been obtained for the study period 1970–2009 for the Zielonka Forest representative meteorological station in Zielonka village. Time trend for annual precipitation sum in Zielonka Forest in the period 1970–2009 is not statistically significant. However, time trend over that period of the average annual air temperature in the Zielonka Forest is statistically significant and amounts to about +0.05°C/year. These trends for the last 10 years during the study period are respectively -0.28 mm/year and +0.11°C/year. These figures can be considered as a confirmation of the adverse climate changes described in the IPCC Report (2007), in relation to the studied area. For the analysis of groundwater conditions selected years 1970, 2002 and 2009. According to the meteorological conditions (precipitation, air temperature), these three years can be regarded as the average (normal). Average groundwater levels in Zielonka Forest (based on Forest District Potasze analyses) throughout the 40-year study period (1970–2009) fell by about 50 cm, while in the last seven- years, fell by 20 cm. Assuming an average porosity of the aquifer layers to 34%, respectively in these periods decreases the ground retention were thus about 160 mm and 60 mm. Variability of groundwater levels has been reduced twice (variation coefficient of groundwater levels dropped by half). The largest groundwater decreases recorded on forest site types. Much lower on coniferous forest and alder/ash alder swamp forest site type. Groundwater lowering in Zielonka Forest can be associated with intensified adverse climate changes. But this is not the only explanation. The second factor, adversely effect on groundwater conditions in Zielonka Forest and its buffer zone, which was not the subject of this paper, is so-called anthropopressure. For example residential and recreational buildings, manufacture and process plant, etc
The groundwater level changes caused by modernization of water devices in the Pomorze Forest District
Because of more and more frequent droughts and observed climate changes, infrastructural investments in forest are at present targeted at increasing water resources, which is realized under the so-called small scale water retention. Forest reservoirs located in Pomorze Forest District in the north-eastern Poland, which was selected for research, fits this trend. The constructed facilities were to reduce the indications of habitat dryness and to improve fire prevention. The investment consisting in building 14 objects of water melioration has changed water conditions in the research area. 12 oak dams, stone weir and an earth pond for amphibians have been built. As a result of the realized investment, the level of water has increased and problems with periodical flooding of forest habitats have occurred. At the beginning of 2012, observational and measuring wells were created to monitor all occurring changes of the soil water table. The received data can be useful in clarifying the causes for flooding and in possible suggestions to improve the existing water conditions. This paper presents the analysis of the influence of realized investments on the changes in the level of groundwater between 2012 and 2014
Component of water balance in vertical profile for sixty-year-old pine stand at the Tuczno Forest Inspectorate
W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono zakres badań hydrologicznych
bilansu wodnego w profilu pionowym: opad atmosferyczny (P), ewapotranspirację
(E) oraz zmianę retencji (wilgotność gleby) (ΔR). Odpływ
(H) natomiast obliczono ze wzoru: H = P – E – ΔR. Do pomiarów
ww. parametrów wykorzystano aparaturę pomiarową składającą się
z: – deszczomierzy korytkowych TPG-124-H24 – A-STER i WXT520
– Vaisala (opad atmosferyczny); – system kowariancji wirów (anemometr
CSAT3 Campbell Sci. i analizator gazowy LI-7500 – Licor) – pomiar
ewapotranspiracji; – reflektometry Campbell Sci. – CS616 (metoda
TDR – wilgotność gleby). Obliczone na podstawie zmian wilgotności
gleby zmiany retencji dla przedziałów 30 minutowych wykazują synchroniczne
fluktuacje do odpowiednich sum opadów atmosferycznych.
In this paper the scope of hydrological investigations and the results obtained in year 2013 on monitoring station at the Tuczno forest inspectorate was presented. The analyzed area is located in the north-west part of Poland in Pomerania province. Three of four components of water balance were directly measured in vertical profile : precipitation (P), evapotranspiration (E) and changes of water retention (soil moisture) (ΔR). The outflow (H) was computed by use of following equation:
H = P – E – ΔR. In order to measure above mentioned parameters we have used set of instruments consisted of: tipping bucket rain-gauges A-STER and WXT510 meteorological station (precipitation); – eddy covariance system (anemometer CSAT 3 and Li-7500 IR gas analyzer) – evapotranspiration; – and few reflectometers CS616 (TDR method – soil moisture). Changes of water retention in 30 minute periods, calculated on the basis of soil moisture fluctuations indicate that they show synchronous fluctuations in the respective sums of precipitation. The amplitudes of soil moisture fluctuatons are inversely proportional to depth the u.s.a. Computed average value of specific outflow oscillate between normative values for this region
Trend analysis of changes in soil moisture from the different depths in the Martew Forestry
The paper presents trends in average annual soil moisture in the area covered by the sixty-year old pine stand. The area of analysis is located in the Tuczno Forest District, the Martew Forestry, in the north-western part of Poland. The calculations were based on the measurements of soil moisture at seven different depths below the ground level. A set of probes was installed for measuring the moisture using TDR method in order to calculate retention changes in the unsaturated zone. Humidity measurements used in this work were carried out at daily intervals throughout the year 2014. Designated trends were analysed using the non-parametric Mann – Kendall test, which is used for detecting trend of hydrological and meteorological parameters. Negative values of the Mann-Kendall statistics point to a declining trend for most – six out of the seven, analysed levels of measurement. The tendency toward dryness was not confirmed by the data set of precipitations. Although precipitations are considered to be the main driver of variations in soil moisture their impact severity seems to be controlled by other characteristics of the catchment area and components of the water balance, such as evapotranspiration
Threats to water relations stability in the forest ombrogenous marshlands
Zmiany klimatyczne naturalne i antropogeniczne są przyczyną

unfavorable water resources are changed. The Forest Promotion Complexes
are a functional areas in peculiarities about to ecological meaning,
educational and social. The area of the FPC Lasy Rychtalskie have
high retention potential. Surface outflow is relatively low ca 4% of annual
precipitation and occurs in the winter half-year extending into May. The
prognosis of groundwater level changes expressed by groundwater level
dynamics was created on the basis of negative annual rainfall trend.
The projection was calculated on assumption that significant changes in
forest swamp ecosystems would occur provided that average groundwater
depth level decrease by 50% of the actual groundwater level depth.
The reduction of groundwater level depth as the outcome of this scenario
can be expected in 100-year period. Pragmatic action to be taken
should prevent from the outflow of the water from the areas. The earlier
carried earlier out chemical tests did not reveal any excessive accumulation
of chemical pollutants in soils, as well as surface and groundwater
